The 2008 Illinois State Checker Championship was held April 5th and April 6th at the Illinois Centre Mall in Marion, IL.  We congratulate all participants for their outstanding play during these two days.

Congratulations to the Masters and Tournament Champion Dr. Richard Beckwith of Willoughby, OH.

The Illinois State Champion is Gene Ellison of Norris City, IL.  Gene tied with Ramon Dionisio at 16 points each, but scored more honor points, 89 to 81.  This is Gene's 2nd Illinois State Championship in 3 years!

Class B winner is Jerry Askins of Kentucky, scoring even with Bob Rice of Kentucky, but winning on honor points 102 to 97.

The Illinois State Checker Association is deeply grateful for the continued support of the beautiful Illinois Centre Mall for hosting the championship.   A generous donation from the Williamson County Tourism Bureau contributed to the prize pool from which $1,016.00 was won by players.  Many players enjoyed their special accommodations provided by the Super 8 located at 2601 W DeYoung.

The 2007 Illinois 101 County Open was held October 6th and 7th  at the Illinois Centre Mall in Marion, IL.   Many thanks to all participants and sponsors for making this years tourney an exciting and successful event.

Illinois has 102 counties.  Players from the Chicago area dominated the state tournament during much of the 20th century, so the remaining 101 counties in Illinois founded this tournament for all players living within them.  Players from Cook county, where Chicago is located, where not eligible.  The tournament is now open to all players.

Congratulations to Alex Moiseyev of Dublin, OH, who is the overall winner in the masters division.  Gene Ellison of Norris City, IL was the highest finisher from Illinois in the masters division.

Congratulations to the overall winner of the 'B' division, Flavious Burgess of Kentucky who edged Howard Hoover, the highest finisher from Illinois.
